Petri
Petri is a petri dish simulator where the growth is real.
Pour a plate, touch a loop to the agar, and wait. What happens next
isn't animated — bacterial colonies, moulds, yeasts and slime moulds
are integrated live on your graphics card from published growth
models. The branching, the inhibition halos, the succession from
bacteria to fungi all fall out of the mathematics, the same way they
fall out of the biology.
Bend time from real-time to a week per second. Scrub the timeline
back through the plate's actual stored past and grow a different
future. Read it with instruments: X-ray, colonisation age, chemistry,
what's growing right now. Open dishes already three days or ninety
days old.
This is an early build, published to be picked apart. If you teach
microbiology or work in it, I want to know where it lies to a
student — wrong rates, wrong shapes, missing mechanisms. Every
approximation in it is written down rather than hidden.
